$2.99 Wax Necessities
A Column By Tim Midgett

An Introduction
(Music Menu is Listed Below)

$2.99: an amount of money that I personally would shell out for any of the records I write about in this column. If I didn't already own them. Perhaps I would pay more. Perhaps not. But the point is: the record is worth three bucks.

Not only that: it is not inconceivable that these records can be found for such a low price. Not too much of this shit is especially collectable, and I swear to you I got it all for not much more than three dollars, if that much.

With this as a guideline, I will be somewhat hamstrung as to subject matter. A lot of these records will be:

Records that were supposed to be "big" but flopped to some degree.

Records that were "big" but nobody gives a shit about them now, including mega-selling hackwork that flirts with genius through a total piece of luck.

Mildly obscure and not especially sought-after records.

And you have my guarantee: I have listened to all records I write about in this column at least once all the way through. And every column I write will be exactly 299 words long. Just like this one. Header and signature not included.

NECESSITIES: Please be flexible about this. A few of these records really are necessities as far as I'm concerned. Maybe not on food-water-shelter level, but as close as a record can get. But an awful lot of them will be records that grab ME for some reason or another, that I will try to describe to you. In some way, I would be poorer without them, though probably I would not cease to draw breath should house burn down and all melt. "NECESSARY" is a relative term, and I don't want anyone to get hurt by taking me literally.
